The Alfandega Transport and Communications Museum of Porto is located within the massive Alfandega Nova building (Alfandega Nova meaning the New Customs House) which dates back to 1860, being geographically situated on the bank of the Duoro River. Despite its past functionality, the building strikes by its neoclassic robustness which would rather call fort the image of a medieval fortress.

O Museu dos Transportes e Comunicações foi inaugurado a 14 de dezembro de 2000, tendo como sede o Edifício da Alfândega do Porto, imóvel datado da segunda metade do século XIX e situado em pleno centro histórico da cidade. A oferta expositiva permanente do Museu integra as exposições: “Metamorfose de Um Lugar: Museu das Alfândegas” e “O Motor da República: os carros dos Presidentes da República” bem como a Visita Interpretativa ao Edifício da Alfândega.
