The construction of the Greco-Roman Museum began in 1891 and was inaugurated by Khedive “Abbas Helmy II” in 1895. The museum contains a large collection of antiquities belonging to several eras, including: the Greco-Roman era, the Coptic era and some Pharaonic antiquities that were discovered in Alexandria and other eras. The museum is divided into several halls of up to 25 halls, and each group of halls contains a special part for each era; Where there are some halls that contain antiquities and objects belonging to the Coptic era, such as a statue symbolizing Christ and attributed to the 16th century, and some pottery vessels that embody ancient Egyptian art and a base for a marble statue on which is written a text concerning the purification of the ancient Alexandria Canal.
