Whitewater Equestrian Center is the home of beautiful Western North Carolina guided trail rides and gem mining. Located in a natural North American rain forest, one of only two; the other being in Seattle, Washington. We go out into the wilderness, on a guided informative trail ride. You will learn of the deep-rooted local Native American history, plants they used for medicines, such as headaches, poisonous venom bites/stings, as well as stomach ailments. During the trail ride, you will experience reaching the peaks of 3 mountains, which offers stunning 360-degree views. Some of your scenery will include 3 majestic natural lakes. Part of your journey will include traversing some of the same trails and paths that natives used in their travels. Located just 1.5 miles from the beautiful Whitewater Falls; a stunning waterfall with an elevation of 414ft. The trail ride is approximately 4 miles. Our horses, mild-mannered and gentle, were previously owned by the children's camp, and will offer a smooth and comfortable ride. It is an experience you will not want to miss, and will be sure to create lasting memories!

It is a great place that offers a variety of activities! They are located about 35 minutes away just across the state line in Sapphire, NC. (Text copied from Whitewater Equestrian Center Website) Become one with nature as you make your way on horseback through a variety of private trails. Experience a bit of history on both Native American trails and historic logging roads. On the wilderness trail in the North American rainforest, one of only two in the United States, the other in the Seattle, Washington, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the animal and plant life, as well as some local history. You may pass by John Green's grave, a famous local legend, and learn about his very interesting demise. All trail rides are great for beginner through advanced riders, with beautiful wooded scenery and mountain streams. Our well-trained horses will give you a fantastic ride. You can ride one of our Gypsy Vanners. Our most requested Gypsy, Sir Maverick, shown here, was a hunter jumper and we acquired him by way of Germany. You can see him jump on You Tube. Of course, he guides our trails now but we continue to be proud of his prior accomplishments. We strive to meet the needs of all our riders. Due to the terrain of the rainforest, our guided trail rides are at a walking pace. If you're shy about riding horseback, you can stay behind at the barn and partake in gem mining. We have small buckets or large buckets and each contains about 20 polished gems ready to make jewelry. You can also go online and research your gems to find out their origin and type. Or if you'd rather just relax in the seating area and take in the fresh air and take in some of Mr. Hinkle's famous Indian stories, you're always welcome to do so. Don't forget to swing through our gift shop and purchase a t-shirt or other trinkets. The gift shop is located to the right of the main office, through the sliding glass door. We welcome you to take photos of our various pets on the farm as well!
