This beautiful, eery, large, yet contraversial sculpture sits ' on a quiet part of the beach between Aldeburgh and Thorpeness. Its sculptor Maggie Hamblin created it as a lasting tribute to Benjamin Britten who lived in Aldeburgh and founded the Aldeburgh Festival which has continued up to the current day, albeit with a couple of years' hiatus during the pandemic, and is held at Snape Maltings. Feel free to sit or climb on the Scallop. When it was finished some locals were very upset that it was there and tried to get it moved to Lowestoft. I'm glad they didn't.
