A great little, steep hike with a gorgeous view of the valley.

Quirky short hike through a vineyard up to a large rock. It had a wonderful view of the west valley and we frequently have the park to ourselves. Consider a picnic on the rock.

From the Oregon State Park website: "This 90-ton rock was deposited during an Ice Age flood. It floated over 500 miles in an iceberg 12,000 to 17,000 years ago, by way of the Columbia River. When the ice melted, the rock was left behind. This is the largest glacial erratic found in the Willamette Valley. It is a type of rock not normally found in Oregon because it came from the Northern Rocky Mountains. Visitors at Erratic Rock can look out across the vast landscape and imagine the huge amount of water that filled the Willamette Valley during the Ice Age Floods." This ancient "rock" is just a short drive from Mac and then a short hike once you arrive at the trail head. You are walking on a path that borders a farm and private property, so please respect this and stay on the path. Once you reach the top - and the rock - on a clear day the views are stupendous. This is a great place to take a picnic and a book or a sketchbook. Enjoy the solitude and the quiet and realize you are standing near (or on) something maybe 20,000 years old. Rather humbling. Hint: Use these directions on where to park: Park along Oldsville Road off of Highway 18 to reach this park. From Oldsville Road, you'll need to walk up a short paved path to the rock itself. The trail becomes steep briefly as you near the rock.
