A great visit, and place to learn part of the New England history in social justice. Ensure to contact them before visiting, as they have been closed for renovations.

100 years ago, a strong, independent woman believed girls, and particularly, black girls, should be allowed to have an education. Prudence Crandall started her school and it is now a museum, within a short drive of us in the picturesque eastern Connecticut countryside.

Museum of the Connecticut State Heroine, Prudence Crandall, who was famous for creating one of the first boarding schools for "little misses of color", as per her own description. An early statement as to the position of abolition and equal rights, Ms Crandall was known for her passion and commitment to education for all young ladies of any color. She was scorned for her beliefs and ultimately run out of town by angry mobs. Her boarding school is open various days during the summer and autumn, and staffed by knowledgeable docents eager to share her story.
