Excellent Japanese food. Decent prices. Hugely popular with the locals. You can't really go wrong if you're a Japanese fan but don't go there for the ambience. 122 East 17th St (corner of Irving Place)

Considered the BEST sushi in NY for the last 20 years, and that is saying a lot! It's hard to find because it is "garden" level and barely marked - look down and ask. You won't regret trying Yama.
