In the summer time the beaches in Chicago are a welcome treat along with the 20 mile lakeshore path. Please note that parking is always a nightmare and if you rent a Divy bike you can get stuck in long lines waiting to drop off at the beach. Taking the bus or riding a bike is your best bet. Also the beaches up North (Montrose Beach) have more parking options.

Rent beach gear, have a cocktail at the waterfront bar, get a massage, or go for a jog or bike ride along the lake front trail

Go a little bit North of here - right below North Avenue beach and you will get a great picture of the city

Cool beach to hang out at: on one side is the massive lake, and on the other side are the Chicago skyscrapers, which makes for a pretty unique view.
