Pruitt Trail is a 6 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Dunnellon, Florida that offers the chance to see wildlife. The trail is rated as moderate and offers a number of activity options. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

The Pruitt Trailhead is part of the Halpata Tastanaki Preserve, but is very different in character. The parking lot serves both but the Peserve gate is a half mile South of the parking lot. The parking lot park has tables and benches, a toilet, and lots of nice trees for shade. Now the Sabel Trail pipeline is just North of the parking lot. From the gate it is 0.3 miles down the trail to the Pipeline crossing, 0.5 miles to very sandy spots, 0.7 miles to the Pruitt sign, and 1.3 miles to a better Limerock road. Also at this point, other trails junction off that are for Mountain Biking, Hiking, and Horses. All this is part of the Cross Florida Greenway. You can hike or bike along side of the three canals that were to be part of the waterway or go up and down the mounds . About 2.8 miles down the trail from the start, you will get to a “T”. Go right for another 0.4 miles to a Pavilion with benches and tables. Another 2.8 miles will get you to Hwy 200. There is no drinking water available any where, so plan accordingly. I have never seen this trail crowded and the forest and grasslands are nice.
