**DOG FRIENDLY** Although there are steep steps to negotiate this beach is worth visiting at low tide as there is lots to explore; caves, rock pools and dry sand for sheltered sun bathing if the wind is blowing off shore.
Our favourite beach, despite the steps. no amenities just beautiful ocean. This beach is our local surf break. Surfable 2 hours either side of low tide. Be careful with current etc as not lifeguarded.
Whipsiderry beach is just at the end of the road. There is a big staircase to climb down, but the beach is stunning and dog friendly, also great for surfing! Just keep an eye on the tides, because at high tide the sea comes all the way in.
Voted in the top 20 of Europe's Best Beaches in the Sunday Times, Whipsiderry Beach is a hidden gem in Newquay. Quiet and sheltered, it is a beautiful beach surrounded by cliffs and boasting rock pools and caves that offer hours of fun exploring. At low tide these rock pools and caves are revealed, while the sand is dry and sheltered making it ideal for sunbathing. Despite being situated within a stone's throw of Newquay, Whipsiderry has a very different, wilder feel than the town beaches. There are no facilities, and please do not leave rubbish as there are no bins at the bottom leave only your footsteps. Access is via steep flight of stairs clinging to the cliff face and there is an enormous island in the middle of the cove. At low tide the sands stretch around half a mile to Watergate Bay. PLEASE WATCH TIDE TIMES!! Care should be taken when walking this stretch as the tide can cut you off. At higher tides Whipsiderry all but disappears. In case you wondered, he name of the beach is derived from two mining terms 'Whips' and 'Derrick

Local beach about 2 miles away. Easy to park in a residential street opposite. Very very steep steps to get down to the beach ( although my 6 & 10 year old are fine) Stunning cove, secluded. Nothing else there so take supplies. Great beach day away from the tourists. No life guards!
