73km from Vejer. Historic town with lots of sherry history.

An hour and a quarter away, Jerez is a great Andalucian city. One of the true heartlands of Flamenco, and one side of the Sherry Triangle - that also includes Sanlúcar and El Puerto de Santa María. As you get closer to Jerez you see the colour of the soil turn much whiter. and it's this chalky / limey soil (as well as the sunshine and the salty sea air) the creates the perfect environment for the grapes needed for sherry. But don't just read it from me, go to Jerez and take a tour of one of the many bodegas in the city. Tío Pepe is the most famous, and is a fantastic tour. Also great are Bodegas Tradición ( they also have an impressive private art collection including works by El Greco and Velázquez). And at Williams and Humbert you can also get to see Andalucian horses. There is flamenco all over the city (and NOT the touristy kind). Go to Tabanco el Pasaje -Jerez' oldest Tabanco (Sherry bar), right in the middle of the city centre, take a glass or two of sherry and watch and soak up the atmosphere, pain, heartache, passion, fun of Flamenco!

Jerez is undoubtedly the number one cultural reference in the area. Its old town, very interesting and full of Gothic churches and manor houses, its Alcazar and Cathedral, the wineries (Gonzalez Byass, Domecq, Sandemán, etc.), the Palace of Time and the Wine Museum, The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art , the Zoo, its famous Horse Fair, the splendid processions at Easter, the cultural programming of the Villamarta Theater, The World Motorcycling Championship, etc.

Jerez is the biggest city close to Lebrija (30 km). Famous for it's wine / sherry and exploring around the city centre is recommended.
