* The Iron Men of Crosby Beach; Another Reason To Visit Liverpool ! Go to a different kind of beach this time! Enjoy sandy shores and thought-provoking art at the same time at Crosby Beach. This wide beach surrounded by dunes is the permanent home of "Another Place" - an art installation by Antony Gormley, the creator of Angel of the North. You'll see 100 life-sized cast iron figures dotted along the beach. The figures mark the safe walking zone on the sand. The last figure is as far as you should go. It's something interesting to keep an eye out for when you walk your dog on the beach. A lazy day at the beach is a firm family favourite - just unwind and enjoy the sun to the sound of kids playing and waves washing on the shore with a quiet “Woosh”. Just don't go deep into the water! The tides at Crosby Beach are quite strong, so swimming is risky. The sand, however, is perfect for building sand castles! And if you fancy a longer walk, take the Coastal Path - it offers great views and it's perfect for spotting birds. Please note - Crosby beach is a non-bathing beach with areas of soft sand and mud and a risk of changing tides.

Crosby beach has been the permanent home of the Another Place sculptures by Antony Gormley since 2007. It consists of 100 cast iron figures facing towards the sea spread over a 2-mile (3.2 km) stretch of beach. The figures are modelled on the artist's own naked body. Each figure is 189 centimetres (6 ft 2 in) tall and weighs around 650 kilograms (1,430 lb). It was the subject of much controversy in Merseyside, although many people considered the figures to be beautiful pieces of art, and tourism in the local area increased. Gormley's reason for choosing Crosby Beach as the location was that he thought of the beach as being "the opposite of pretty. It is terrific and brutal and is a working beach
