Cabin Fever Kayak The cure for cabin fever: explore someplace different and embrace the beauty in nature! Cabin Fever Kayak launches boats in the quiet and scenic Black River in Prince Edward County, known for its calm waters and wildlife galore. It’s like a choose your own adventure: paddle one way and the river winds for about 6km to the town of Milford – or head in the other direction and go under a bridge where the river opens into a small bay on Lake Ontario. Although the folks at Cabin Fever note that they’re outside most of the time, they’re encouraging masks while you are on site. All equipment is thoroughly sanitized between each guest. Guests may bring their own lifejackets if they prefer and are also asked to stay outside of barns and outbuildings as much as possible while on site.

Tim and Lesley Snyder, the owners of Cabin Fever Kayak, both illustrators, moved to the county a few years ago, “having done that whole soul-destroying Toronto thing,” as Mr. Snyder said. He still moonlights as a syndicated political cartoonist. With watercraft manufactured locally (Clearwater Design kayaks to buy your own), they launch boats from next to their barn on the Black River, a half-mile upstream from where it enters Lake Ontario. The river’s source is at Milford, where large schooners were once built, a peaceful winding paddle past pretty marshland.
