The oldest state park in Connecticut. It is named for Major General Israel Putnam, who chose the site that is now the park as the winter encampment. Walking distance from cottage.

This park is actually on both sides of the road that runs through it. The main entrance has a small museum and you can explore old revolutionary war encampment grounds. Easy trail, recommended for history buffs.
