There is a nice path though this area. Once a cobbermine, the museum will give you insight in the family life of the miner as well as the mining. The cafeteria is open on sundays. There is a playground and picniktables. And a wonderful view.
The mine at Visnes was used to extract the ore for the statue of liberty in New York. It has a miniature version of the statue, and is also a nice place for a walk or picnic.
VISNES KOBBERVERK was in its time the largest and most modern in Northern Europe. The mine was in operation for two periods between 1865-1972 and that 4.2 million tonnes of raw copper were mined, zinc and sulfur. In 1882 it is said that Visnes was «Norway's largest workplace », with almost 1000 workers for the most part. In a few years, the village was transformed into a hectic mining town, with a population of close to 3,000, school, hospital, dairy and shops. VISNES was used in the construction of the famous Statue of Liberty in New York.

They say that the kobber used for the Statue of Liberty actually come from this place. This is now a small but nice park, and the last time I visit there, they also had a kafeteria.
