Truro has lots to offer as a small city. Often missed is Coosebean; an enchanted fairy woodland walk great for small children. No local parking, better to try to pick up the trail after parking in the nearbybresidential area ; co-ordinates (50.2649375, -5.0756875)

Additional to the Trust gardens, there is a Nice circular woodland walk from their car park, down to a lovely little beach down the hill - just mud at low tide. Kids love taking the King Harry Ferry (car ferry) to the Roseland peninsula which is great to explore for walks if you have time

Additional to the Trust gardens, there is a Nice circular woodland walk from their car park, down to a lovely little beach down the hill - just mud at low tide. Kids love taking the King Harry Ferry (car ferry) to the Roseland peninsula which is great to explore for walks if you have time
This pretty seaside town offers plenty to do with beaches, Pendennis Castle (English heritage), a Maritime Museum, boat trips, galleries, shops and plenty of good restaurants and bars/ pubs at night.
Good family walks of varying distances stretch from Pendenis point (or park here for an ice cream and quick ramble), round the castle, across the promenade to the beaches of Gyllyngvase, Swanpool, Maenporth and then off to the Helford River and the Ferry Boat Inn if you have the legs for it.

The Hamlet is Durgan but the tranquil , sheltered beach next to it is called Grebe. This pretty pebble beach is a great for children. Except with Easterly winds, it’s calm Helford estuary makes it good for paddle boarding and swimming. Walk west towards the sea for a great estuary views.
To get there head for Bosveal National Trust car park, be warned it can get full quite quickly and don’t drive down into Durgan unless your reversing is good!
This is also the start of a great 1.5 mile walk west to the Ferry boat pub. Good food (busy in summer months). Another fun excursion is to take the ferry from the Ferry boat pub to the south side of the helford. Walking from here to St Anthony, exploring excellent hidden beaches and continue on to manaccan to make it a circular walk- too much for young kids, but worth trying to fit in as this stunning part of Cornwall is so often missed.

Can combine with a trip to the most Southerly point in the UK, the Lizard Peninsula or explore the South side of the Helford river from here.

A 10 minute road cycle or 5 minute drive takes you to the middle of the Coast to Coast cycle trail.
11 miles from the lovely coastal village of Portreath (North) to Devoran (South), through Scorrier Woods, the Poldice Valley and alongside the stunning Restronguet Creek, and is almost entirely on purpose built cycle paths or quiet country lanes.
