The Historic Ranch House

We have intentionally tried to preserve as much of the ranch house as possible while still updating the house to today’s standards. The most notable piece of history is the Monarch cook stove in the kitchen, the doorways and doors that are not as tall as today’s standards, the original wood floor in the master bedroom and original moulding around some of the doors. The house is a 3-bedroom, 1-bath house with all the amenities from home. We hope you enjoy our little piece of ranch history!

We welcome you to stay in our guest house: A renewed log cabin on three acres at BV's western edge. This quiet, in-town location is a good base for Arkansas Valley activities. A few miles east of us is Cottonwood Pass with hot springs, hiking, snowshoeing, etc. Or, bike or walk a mile to the east for restaurants and shopping, the Arkansas River and Fourmile trail complex beyond. Note: There are many pet-friendly options nearby, but we do our best to provide an allergen-free studio for guests.

We built it in 2014 on 20-acres with a private drive, 900' of riverfront with a trail, superb privacy with great views; its only 3.5-miles from downtown Salida and 18-miles from Monarch. We have a big garden, and chickens and ducks (fresh eggs in season!), and we're frequented by visits from deer, great-horned owls, red-tailed hawks, and sometimes wild turkeys and elk!

Our place is a 10-min walk to the hot springs swimming pool and close to downtown Salida and the bike path. You’ll love our open house with its quiet neighborhood, pastoral setting and beautiful views of the Collegiate Mountains. Just 30 minute drive to Monarch ski area. We do have a no pet policy at our home. There is a nice shaded area in our back yard and a large deck with a BBQ. We do not have Wi-Fi, so come expecting to unplug. We have a landline if you need to communicate with anyone.
