Sightseeing

Crossing this iconic bridge from one borough into another is liking traveling through time, with layer upon layer of historical buildings and contemporary architecture on both sides of the East River. On the Brooklyn side, a set of stairs give quick access to and from DUMBO, where old brick waterfront warehouses sprout boutiques and contemporary condominiums; there's a view of the Manhattan Bridge looking down cobblestoned Water Street that's one of those most-photographed sites--for good reason. On the Manhattan side, you're a short walk to World Trade Center and 9/11 Memorial.

Brooklyn's own version of Central Park. Prospect Park is a great way to get a dose of peace and quiet right in a city that never sleeps. The roadways are almost entirely closed to vehicle traffic, so you can safely walk, run and cycle around the 3.3 mile loop road. During the summer, check the event calendar for Celebrate Brooklyn: live music almost every night of the week all summer long at the Prospect Park Bandshell near 9th Street entrance,

Worth the trip just to see the entrance and facade, but definitely worth seeing what's inside too! Contains permanent installation Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party, a feminist history as presented in unique table settings. Check the museum website for current exhibits.
