Leonard Cohen and alt-country on the stereo, cool decor, foodie magazines… And that's before you get to the menu, which features excellent wood-fired pizzas (try the scallop, caramelised onion and pancetta version). An evening here will probably have you asking your accommodation if you can stay an extra night. Sterling beer and wine list, too.

A great walk as the track zig zags up through magnificent tall swamp gums and delightful sassafras rainforest before opening up into alpine heath. Terrific views out toward Snowy Range, the Western Arthurs and down to Precipitous Bluff from a spot called Flat Rock. From there its an easy walk to the end of the track on Mount Misery. The walk starts at the Huon Bush Retreats visitors centre near Ranelagh south of Hobart. Its about 5 km return along a well marked and signposted track. Theres a short 20 minute return side trip to the "Lightning Tree" and a waterfall well worth the excursion!
