Where mid-East sophistication meets Mediterranean flair in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula. Dee’s Kitchen is a celebration of diversity and culture, not only through the multicultural menu, but also the outfit which is infused with a feel of decades past and the funky urban café scene of Melbourne’s inner north. It is about much more than just a meal. It is a celebration of food, heritage, culture and, of course being social, yet it doesn’t sit out of place within the more relaxed environment of a beachside community. They notched up their 12th Chef’s Hat at The Age Good Food Guide awards in 2015, with the Guide saying “Montalto is like a checklist to all the finer things in life…” The relaxed elegance of the Montalto Restaurant is set in a striking and harmonious landscape building featuring rammed earth walls, timber frames and rough-hewn floor boards. Floor to ceiling windows take advantage of the breathtaking and rambling rural outlook of vines, olive groves, sculpture, lakes and wetlands, with pasture, and a hint of the ocean as the backdrop. Reservations are recommended at all times. Montalto is particularly busy at weekends and during school holidays at which time reservations are essential at your earliest convenience. Everyday we offer our full menu to choose from; two courses is $60, three course is $80pp. 5 & 7 course degustation menu’s available as well. Restaurant Opening Hours Lunch Friday to Tuesday (closed Wednesdays & Thursdays) Dinner Friday & Saturday Montalto Piazza Cafe (Casual Dining) We’ve recently designed and renovated the Piazza Cafe to retain the connection to the gardens and property that you love while upping the comfort level. It’s a gorgeous new space that retains the casual outdoor feel and allows you to engage with the view. When is the Piazza open? 7 days a week 11-4pm Can we just turn up and take a seat? When people arrive a host will take you to a suitable table. On weekends and busy days we fill up very quickly, sometimes by 12pm. Once we’re full we take names for people who are happy to wait. If you have a big group this can take a little longer because not all our tables are suitable. There’s plenty to do whilst you wait, have a wine tasting in cellar door or take a cup of coffee and wander through the garden or sculpture exhibition. What’s on the menu? We’ve designed the menu for sharing, so that’s what we always suggest. The small section has some tasty inexpensive snacks that get to the table fast, so order a couple of things from there to get you started. Then order from the fish and meat section or pizza together with some salad or vegetables.

The Bay Trail is directly opposite the Apartment on the foreshore of the McCrae beach. If you just want a leisurely walk or something more challenging, maybe a bike ride on the bikes we have available, then this trail is for you. Ride or walk in either direction and you will be in Rosebud or Dromana. The Mornington Peninsula Bay Trail Extends from Portsea all the way up the Port Phillip Bay Beach to Mornington and through to Frankston where it then heads inland out towards Hastings and the Westernport Bay. This trail encompasses the beautiful calm sandy bay beaches of Port Phillip Bay, the often unexplored Westernport side of the Peninsula, and finishes up in the hinterland town of Red Hill, right in the heart of the Peninsula’s wine country.

McCrae Homestead is one of Victoria's oldest homesteads and is a physical reminder of the early pioneering life. Built in 1844 by lawyer Andrew McCrae and his artist wife Georgiana, the Homestead is a rare example of drop slab construction. Made using local materials such as messmate, stringybark and wattle it was sold to the National Trust in 1970 by Georgiana’s great-great-great grandson. The Homestead is one of Victoria’s oldest, original existing houses, and was built on a large lease in the Port Phillip colony, Arthur’s Seat Run, comprising 33 square miles or 20,500 acres (8,296ha). The building was designed by Georgiana McCrae who was the illegitimate daughter of the 5th Duke of Gordon, a talented artist and dedicated diarist. The McCrae family were one of the first six pioneer families to establish properties on the Mornington Peninsula. The homestead has been restored back to its original features and includes many pieces of furniture, art and objects from the McCrae family to create the life of these Scottish migrants and demonstrate the type of lifestyle of pioneer settlers in the Port Phillip Colony. The Visitor’s Centre, located on the property, features two galleries, one of which is dedicated to the McCrae family and particularly to Georgiana’s art and memorabilia, and the other features incredible photography, artefacts and objects from the Burrell-Twycross family who lived at McCrae Homestead from 1851 to 1926. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT MCCRAE HOMESTEAD WILL BE UNDER SEASONAL CLOSURE FROM JULY TO AUGUST.
