Goat Rock Beach
The views are to-die-for
It's not any of the categories the system offered, so I had to choose "everything else". It's canoe rentals, to go up or down river from my place. You can walk down to the rental source (2 blocks from my house), and hang out on the Russian River all day, or however long. After paddling a bit, you'll find a place along the river where you'll want to get in the water. That's the point --- you can find your own private swimming hole if you rent a canoe and get away from the places where people can park close to the beach.

Incredible vistas of the coast if you don't mind wind & sun. Hike is unshaded on the west side, up to the top, then the terrain changes radically and you're in a redwood forest, then winding through oak and madrone as you head back down.

Walking distance from the house, so you don't need to pay the $7 parking fee. Long trail parallels the river down to several little swimming holes away from the crowds. Best to avoid the main beach where everyone goes. Much nicer downriver.

Drinks & Nightlife
It's not a scene for singles. It's a tiny little restaurant with a lovely view of the mouth of the Russian River, with an excellent bar and restaurant. Parking is horrible. But if you are going to the coast and coming back from Goat Rock Beach, then you just plain MUST stop at River's End, at least for a drink at the bar. Their chowders are FABULOUS, as are their salads, and you can eat at the bar, so don't bother to reserve a table if it's only 2 of you deciding to go there at the last minute. You won't regret it, I promise!

But if you are going to the coast and coming back from Goat Rock Beach, then you just plain MUST stop at River's End, at least for a drink at the bar. You won't regret it, I promise!
