Sightseeing

Just 2.2miles away from our home is the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh. A beautiful location for a walk, with lots of locations on the way to grab your coffee. It is free entry and a beautiful spot that provides panoramic views of Edinburgh and the castle. There are toilets, cafe, restaurant and gift shop on sight. Can be a brilliant free day out or even just an hour. Though it is a central location, the park is so peaceful and a great escape from the city hustle and bustle.

A favourite spot!!! A 45min walk or a 15min bus ride from my home. A gorgeous promenade always alive. With paddle boarding, boats, beach yoga, cafes, restaurants, bars, arcades, ice cream - there's something for everyone. Can be a great breather from the city centre and on the number 26 bus (which runs almost every 10mins) from the stop outside my home, a single bus ticket costs just £1.80, so a very cheap acitivty!!

This beautiful building and amazing exhibits are free to the public. A place for learning, for history, for entertainment or even just for hiding out from the rain. Located on chamber Street, it's next to Greyfiars Kirk - a popular tourist location for finding names of Harry Potter Characters on tombstones and for paying respects to Bobby, the dog of the Kirk who was eternally loyal to his duties and owner. National Museum occasionally has a section exclusive to a ticketed exhibit but the free section is always accessible. Highly recommend heading to the science section to play games and test your smarts!!

Mix it up and see the other large city of Scotland. Glasgow is the home of the industrial revolution. Unlike Edinburgh and its classic Georgian Property's, Glasgow is a mish mash of architecture with limestone, sand stone, red brick. Top tip - while exploring, look up. The stone Mason in the city is stunning with beautifully crafted details throughout. Glasgow has excellent shopping, bars, music scene and more. Just remember to grab an umbrella, West Coast is often wet! You can get a train from Waverley or Haymarket in Edinburgh. Trains run approximately every 15mins and take just 50mins to travel from one city to the next. Glasgow has its own share of museums, activities and more to keep you entertained for the day.

Heading up into town from my home?? If it is a dry day, I definitely recommend walking to the city centre via regent Road. This will give you a panoramic view of the scottish Parliament, Arthur's seat, Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh Castle and everything in between.

Neighbourhoods

Do you want to see the development from historic Edinburgh? This area is often referred to New Town, developed when old town became over populated and the wealthy wanted to relocate. The homes are grand and the area is built around the Water of Leith - a river that connects tourist locations such as the Royal Britania on the River Forth to tourist locations such as the Modern Art Gallery in land. Stockbridge is filled with restaurants, a farmers market every weekend, pubs and bars for days and lots of boutiques and charity shops: it is a local hobby to go thrift shopping here. Inverleith Park is situated as the bottom of Stockbridge and is a gorgeous location for views of the city, a walk round the lake or even to catch a local rugby game. In cold weather - I highly recommend hiding by the fire with your pint in the Raeburn Pub.

This is the main hub of Edinburgh History. This region will provide you with: - Edinburgh Castle - The Grassmarket (pubs, restaurants and live music) - Edinburgh Dungeons - Scottish Parliament - Mary Kings Close - Camera Obscura - St Giles Cathedral - Walking Tours - Underground Tours - Holyrood Palace And more. You can leave my house and be at Holyrood Palace within 5-10mins walk, right on the foot of the Royal Mile, leading you nicely up the street to Edinburgh Castle. I live on the edge of Old Town

The East Lothian coast line is a sight to be seen. Known as the Golf Coast, this area is greenery for days!!! With lots of choices of golf course, if you are a player - you have the bus route of 26, 44, 114 and 124 right on our doorstep so can access the coast route with ease due to Edinburgh's regular bus timetable. With just £1.80 for a single ticket, you can visit East Lothian at a bargain. If you're up for a walk, you can be at popular local spot Portobello Beach within 45mins / take a bus for 15mins. The promenade is a popular spot with restaurants, cafes, bars and arcades. Highly recommend travelling out to Gullane if you're looking for a nice beach and North Berwick is an excellent spot too. With some of the most expensive property in Scotland, the local architecture is there to be enjoyed but there's also boat rides out to bass Rock, a sealife centre, a putting green, amazing ice cream and more!!

Getting to the city centre

On a dry day, walk into town via Regent Road. This will give you a panoramic view of Edinburgh, including out to East Lothian and the coast, Holyrood Palace, Scottish Parliament, Arthur's seat, Edinburgh Castle and everything in between. By bus, most buses that come to London Road head to the city centre. Number 26 is the most frequent and fastest way into town.
