A more challenging hike, which will take about 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Park in the overflow lot close to the visitor center and head down the trail to cross the SD river before heading up South Fortuna Trail.

This popular hike starts about 45 mins from the rental. The hike is moderate to challenging from the Poway Lake side and a little shorter if you start on the service road from Ramona. Views are the best in San Diego and on a clear day, you can see Catalina Island in the Pacific. Bring a lot of water and avoid crowds by doing this one on a weekday.
Plan for 4 hours total if you start from Lake Poway, 2 hours from Ramona.

SD Trolley
If you don’t plan on driving or prefer public transportation, the SD Trolley is a great way to get around. Day tickets are $5 for unlimited rides. The closest station to the rental is Spring Street Station in La Mesa. You can park you car for free at the station or take an Uber there.

Groceries are expensive at most stores in California. We like to go to Aldi (about 15 minutes from the rental) for reasonable priced groceries. Tip: they also sell delicious German candy!
