City/town information

The ancient walled Zadar city centre is only a 15-20 minute bus ride from the apartment along the beautiful Adriatic waterfront. Here you will experienced a lively atmosphere of markets, restaurants, cafes, entertainment and history dating back to Roman and Venetian times. Make sure you visit the old Roman Forum ruins, the Venetian era gates to the walled city, and the seaside walking promenade along its entire western side to experience the beautiful summer sunsets.

A lesser know hidden gem. A great place to visit for a lunch next to the beatiful waterfalls of the Zrmanja River only a 40minute drive east of Zadar. Take a dip in the clear karst river, jump from the bridge or off the waterfalls, or hike up the road for even more beautiful pools in the river gorge. Anothr option is to take an organised kayaking trip down the river.

Adventure

For the highly adventurous, why not try bungee jumping of the 55 metre high steel arch Maslenica bridge. Otherwise just experience the fantastic views of the narrow channel and the Velebit mountains in the distance.

The local #8 Diklo bus to the city (cheap and convenient)

Take the local #8 Diklo bus for a cheap, convenient, and carefree ride into the city and back. Its 10 kuna per one-way trip if you pay as you get on the bus. Make sure you have the correct change. A better option is to buy a book of tickets from the local mini kiosks that are dotted around the city for 8 kuna per ticket. Bus trips are daily, depoarting every 30 minutes from 6am to 10pm at the local Diklo marina.

The daily old town farmers market is a must

Take a bus ride into the city in the mornings to visit the city market square where you will find a colourful, vibrant and buzzing fresh local vegetable and flowers market. There are also clothing and pastry stands, and a fresh seafood market brought in by the local Zadar fishing fleet.

Agree on taxi fares from the city back to Diklo

Before you hop in a taxi from the city, agree the fare with the driver. Ask your local host Marko as to what is a reasonable price to pay for the trip. Move on to the next driver of the first one asks too much. Its also best (and cheaper) to walk across the bridge when you exit the city and catch the taxi from the taxi rank on the other side.

The old town of Zadar is family friendly and safe.

The old town of Zadar is a vibrant hub in the late afternnons and evening in summer with pedestrian only stone paved streets full of cafes, restaurants, shopping, ice-cream parlours, and street entertainment.
