Hawai'i is famous for its coffee and there is no better place to experience Hawaiian Coffee than Green World Coffee Farm. You can order a drink and then mull around the shop smelling all the gorgeous coffee beans and local art they offer. There are so many flavors to choose from. My favorite of theirs is caramel, if you happen to leave the bean in your car on a hot day your whole car will smell like delicious caramel coffee. Even a bag on the counter can make your kitchen smell nice and homey. Take a tour, hang out outside or shop within. GWC is a must for any coffee lover. This place is also very kid friendly. With a fenced-in large side yard area, parents often let their kids run around, feed birds, and make friends.

If you're looking for a nice lunch the Kalapawai is a favorite for us. They have great sandwiches and in the evening it is a nice casual date spot. The original Kalapawai Market is in Kailua, easy to spot with its famous green and white paint. No matter if you find yourself on the East or West side of the island, the Kalapawai is always a recommended stop.

Haleiwa in and out of itself is the coolest little town to explore but you can't leave without visiting this North Shore favorite. Don't let the name scare you, Shark's Cove has some of the best snorkeling on island. A rental shack on the other side of the road caters to tourists wanting to explore the cove and all the wildlife that it has to offer. Make sure to bring water shoes- at least for the little ones. Volcanic rock is sharp and the sand here is very grainy. There is parking both on the dining and snorkel rental side as well as along the beach. Rest Rooms are closest to the shops.

There are two locations of Haleiwa Joes. The first is located on the Northshore, It has a beautiful open back lawn which is helpful when the kids get tired of waiting in line. You might think that with first come first serve seating and no reservations available that people would tire of this restaurant but a line can be seen forming before they open for dinner. The second location overlooks botanical gardens in Kaneohe. Start with the coconut shrimp, a madame Pele lava flow and if you can order before it runs out, the Prime Rib. *Protip- Order the prime rib at the same time you order your appetizers

Paradise Cove Luau is arguably the best Luau in Hawai'i. There are many things you can do before dinner and the show. You can take pictures with parrots, make spears, and learn dances all while enjoying the beautiful west side beach and sunset shows.

Called the "Tropical Jewel" of the Honolulu Botanical Gardens, the Wahiawa Botanical Garden is a free, low-traffic park. Tall Rainbow Eucalyptus trees and tropical flowers surround walkways. If you've never seen the rainbow peeling bark of the eucalyptus trees, it is so cool and well worth the trip.

Kaena Point is another great place to visit. It's the most western tip of Hawai'i and a popular place to take photos. Beautiful mountains, rock formations, and splashy waves make for a scenic place to sit and watch the sunset.

Packing Tips

Everything is set for your visit; so what's next? Your vacation time is precious! To avoid last-minute target trips, we suggest bringing these two most overlooked items. - Water shoes if you plan on visiting any of the beautiful rock formations around the island, it is a good idea to pack water shoes. Volcanic rock is SHARP. Save your time (and feet) - pack ahead. - Light Jacket Afternoon rains are common. Bring something light that will keep you dry and comfortable. If you're a mainlander the chances of you being cold are slim. A simple windbreaker is nice to have around.

Respect The 'Aina

Hawai'i is a beautiful paradise with thousands of years of reverence for the islands and nature. We ask that you care for our island with the same respect that you would a dear elder of yours. Here are some helpful tips that the Kama'aina will appreciate. - Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints. Hawai'i supports a diverse and delicate ecosystem. Please leave shells, flowers, and nature alone. - Wear reef-friendly sunscreen. Chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate damage our coral reefs and the marine life they support. Try a mineral-based sunscreen.

Aloha Time

Life (and cars) move a little slower on island. Upon first arriving the speed limits and laid-back style of island drivers may seem frustrating but lay off the horn, relax, and enjoy the journey. It's rare that you will hear about a fit of road rage on island. Embrace the Aloha Spirit and go with the flow.
