The Silver Dollar is a long standing restaurant in the area where many visitors and locals go. The inside is larger than it appears, good service and upbeat atmosphere. They often have live entertainment. Our favorite is the pizza and they do carry out as well. Definitely a hot spot of this side of the lake!

I may be a bit biased here as this business was in our family since 1956 and sold in the early 2000's. It remains a staple of the Roscommon area and offers a wide variety of great food, pool and a bowling alley.

A great place to stop in if you are in the Houghton lake area. Excellent setting right on the water with a great deck and overall space. Happy hour is always a hit here.

I have yet to find a small ice cream shop that beats this place. They have a big selection of ice cream and possibly even bigger portions. Don't let the long line scare you, it generally goes pretty fast.

Known for pies and baked goods, this darling diner is a hidden gem for breakfast and other good eats. It's been around for a very long time. Our mother was employed here as a waitress in her teens in the 50's!

Recently remodeled and revamped, this sits on the Cut River. A small river that feeds from Higgins Lake. They have a nice outdoor seating area and a few more upscale menu items than most in the area.

Again a long standing business in the area. This store is packed and a great place to purchase snacks, toiletries, ice, liquor, a toy or two with other essentials. Another cool feature, besides the fact I used to rent VHS tapes here as a kid, is the the owners have manie coon cats that you may catch a glimpse of.

In business since the 50's, this offers great service and access to the AuSable River. The AuSable can arguably be one of the best canoeing rivers in the midwest known for its sheer size, scenery, clear water and fishing.
