Ziplining in the rainforest!

The resort runs ziplining daily! This is a fun 90-minute adventure, you will get in your harness and hike through the jungle, to zipline through several platforms. This is awesome for families, couples and everybody! TIP: if you stay at the resort you can also request a Night Zipline, wearing a headlamp through the whole experience!

Antelope Falls at Bocawina

Antelope Falls is definitely one of those hidden trails that not many people know about. The trail can be considered moderate, with steep areas and few sections of rope at the top... but believe me it is completely worth it! You will find a 1000 ft waterfall with several drops, and stunning viewpoints, a great blue lagoon at the very top ideal for swimming and cliff jumping! There is also a little Jacuzzi style pool at the top which is picture-perfect. From the top you can see the abundant jungle and definitely can see the ocean on the horizon. Make sure you bring water , snacks & bug spray

Rental car or a private driver is the best way to go!

Getting to the resort is easy, but you definitely need a car. If you have a rental car you can park easily at the property. If you do not have a car, you can request a driver from Hopkins, Dangriga or Placencia (for an additional fee- contact your host)

Protected Sites, Conservation and Park Fees

It's important to notice the National Park is home to many unexcavated Mayan Ruins. These are sacred, please DO NOT remove any of the rocks on those sites. Also, a $5 fee is charged at the park entry, park rangers will ask you to sign up at arrival and pay this fee (cash only). US and Belizean dollars accepted. This park is a protected habit to diverse wildlife. Park fees give you full access to hiking trails, waterfalls, and the park. It's a one-time fee, and it helps to conservation efforts. Be nice, be kind and please do not argue with rangers about the fee... don't be that person

Mayan, Mestizo, and Garifuna Cultures

You will notice that three cultures converge in Bocawina and Hopkins area: Mayan, Mestizo, and Garifuna. While English is the official language of Belize, most of the population also speaks a creole patois, and many Belizeans are multilingual. Yucatec, Mopán, and Kekchí are spoken by the Maya in Belize

Chill ... relax, and be kind to people -Tipping appreciated

This is something VERY important. As many of us in North America have become accustomed to express service, and we were raised in a mentality of "the client is always right" we forget that we are in a different country, different culture, and different perception of life. Please understand that, and be kind to others, especially to others with a different culture/language than yours. Don't expect anything as "back home we would/ wouldn't do this or that", sit back, chill, relax and appreciate the differences. Tipping is customary 10-15% , and 20% for high-end places. Once again: be kind

Bring comfortable shoes, SPF and bug spray!

When packing keep in mind you are going to the rainforest... are there mosquitoes and bugs? Yes absolutely, the rainforest will have mosquitos and we recommend coming prepared. Bring bug spray that works for your body/skin. Especially when you are hiking outdoors. SPF is definitely a must (find a reef-safe product as all chemicals end up in the ocean) Comfortable shoes are very important, especially if you love hiking, there are miles and miles of hiking trails. Bring an extra pair as definitely they will get dirty and wet! Light dry fast clothes are a must

Check, please! (flag your server)

Very important, when you go to a restaurant make sure you get the waiter's attention when you need something whether is water or your bill. For some people in Belize is rude to bring the bill if you don't ask for it. Also if something is missing from your table, just ask the staff don't rant, yelp, or leave a bad review: use your words (and be kind we never know what this person is going through that day) If you need more water, fresh coffee, cutlery, or the check, just flag the waiter and ask. That's the Belizean way :)

Photo Opp: Guardian of the Jungle Mural

Definitely the most beautiful mural you'll ever see in Belize! This colorful mural was created by International Artist Güri, who chose Bocawina's Mayan building to create his artwork. It is called Maintzunum 'Guardian of The Jungle'. Take pictures, but do not touch! You can also buy some of his art prints at the gift shop

Download movies on your devices (before travel)

Internet in Belize is not very fast, and it can be slower depending on weather and other factors out of our control. If you travel with children, make sure you download some movies on your device, as movie streaming is impossible. Some people have tried (even when we tell them not to) and they end up crashing the entire network.

When in doubt... just ask!

If you have any questions, something is not working, the buffet is finished and you didn't have any food, you requested a specific diet, or you would like more veggies, need cutlery or you run out of the fresh brew. Just ask! We want you to feel at home. Talk to our staff and ask if you need anything.
