Sightseeing New England

Great places within driving distance
Boston is about 2-2.5 hrs by car + traffic (parking sucks and the roundabouts suck, I lived there for a year lol, save your blood pressure and just take the train - Amtrak from new haven union station is worth every penny compared to your sanity while driving with Massachusetts drivers and gutsy pedestrians (message owner for funny name for Massachusetts drivers and additional info.) Boston is a very historic American city with many features easily found via Google search ;) but some of owners favorites: - Chinatown (feels like you’re in a different country, amazing dim sum, hot pot, sushi, pho, azn grocery stores, azn owned stores/shops/bakeries/Asian delights and delicacies/fish markets with snacks from Asia (Pocky, mochi, and everything in between), live fowl shops - the Boston common (park) - Boston public garden (a MUST see) beautiful park with gorgeous flowers and landscaping featuring historic sculptures/monuments - beacon hill (another must see neighborhood) explore the cobblestone streets and gorgeous homes and brownstones with a good pair of sneakers recommended! Acorn street is famous and iconic but I liked just walking the whole neighborhood and fangirling at the gorgeous homes - downtown crossing has shops if you need clothes or groceries, accessible from red line of the T (train/subway) - Fenway park: home of the Boston Red Sox. Need I say more!? - Boston marathon: God bless those determined runners. My knees hurt just thinking about how I used to watch them run and achieve their goals. Also a big drinking holiday for spectators but can be fun - Boston PRIDE parade : wear your best rainbow or pride outfit and enjoy yourself, various locations and after parties exist to watch parade and enjoy your time in Boston after.🏳️‍🌈 - check Eventbrite for additional daily happenings

If you need time for stillness or to appreciate nature, New Hampshire is the place to visit. It’s full of beautiful scenery to hike and explore. I’ve never had a bad time in New Hampshire. Bring some maple syrup as a souvenir!

Beach

Enjoy the Long Island sound in Milford. A nice place to walk is the boardwalk at silver sands state park in Milford at sunset. You can also access the beach and boardwalk by parking on east Broadway at the dead end near the fisherman’s lot near Greek spot cafe
Eat at greek spot cafe, citrus, el barrio, river restaurant (cash only but best service and BEST Italian food), walnut beach creamery for ice cream homemade. Hit up Trader Joe’s grocery store in orange ct if you’ve never been there

If you like to camp go to Burlingame state park and hit up blue shutters or east beach (great for kids) but if you want to park you better aim to be there at like 9am. Good luck lol. East beach opens back up in the evening and offers the beach and a salt pond. Salt pond is shallow and warm and great for kids to explore the water while parents don’t have to worry about waves. Another favorite place is The Umbrella Factory. I go here every year just about. Quirky place with beautiful flowers and cool little shops and a great place to spend an afternoon with kids or family or solo

Tipping

It is customary in US to tip 10-20% on your bill. Servers make less than minimum wage $5/hr or so depending on state and restaurant and rely on tips, preferably cash to make a fair wage and will use this tip to “tip out” bar staff, waitstaff, busers, hostess. Cool people 😎 tip 18-20% plus fgrespect how hard it is to serve the public and not punch a wall 😀
Paano makapaglibot

Car is the easiest way to get around this area or Uber/Lyft

Also can take the train. Amtrak and metro north are nice and offer lots of times to accompany you. City Bus is available but quite an adventure (politely) and not for the faint of heart 😛

Street smarts

If you are traveling to new haven, NYC, boston, ETC be mindful of your surroundings. While these are great areas full of awesome things to do, crimes still happen here and you don’t want to make yourself a target. Do not carry large amounts of cash. Be mindful of backpacks and wallets that are easily accessible to pickpockets and be mindful that there are all kinds of walks of life in cities and it’s unkind to stare at someone different than you and take their photo. I have never had anything bad happen to me in these cities but I also make eye contact with everyone I pass and stay vigilant

Traveling with children

If you travel with your children, I admire your patience and eardrums and overall commitment to being a parent

If you want to save money

There are plenty of free museums and parks to explore. I believe one of the Yale art museums is free and many parks are free or small fee to park

Plan ahead

Research things you want to do and buy tickets ahead of time or be like me and roll the dice and show up and plan things that day and see where the day takes you 😏
