Whitstable- a Foodie's Dream- ( many restaurants require booking in advance)

Some of our favourite restaurants are: Harbour Street tapas this has authentic tapas and has an intimate atmosphere. Rulu's Kitchen - Wine, is a rare gem, a friendly great spot for coffee, breakfast, lunch or dinner, the Whitstable Oyster Company , here you will find fresh seafood set in a beautiful ancient building by the sea. For a local pub head to The East Kent with a Pizza oven in garden and friendly staff. The Lobster Shack serves Lobster/fish and chips on the beach and is lovely for a relaxed lunch. We love the fish pie at Samphire, an intimate restaurant on the High street. Jojos serves Tapas overlooking the sea at Tankerton has delicious mezze in a rustic dining room, perfect for a stroll along the seafront. Wheelers is a Whitstable original with seafood at the bar and a tiny restaurant. The Sportsman is by the sea in Seasalter, this Michelin star restaurant has a seasonal tasting menu, set aside an afternoon and enjoy unpretentious food, locally sourced food and drink at its best. Fun bars in town are: Twelve Taps - Craft beer and gin bar with courtyard, Seafarmers Dive - Craft beer on the seafront, Amadea -'A half Croatian bar', friendly atmosphere. Drop in to one of the many lovely local cafes: Windy Corner serves the best brunch, Blueprint nice for a coffee and a read of their books. Tea and Times great for coffee, brunch and lunch and The Forge serves coffee on the beach and fresh doughnuts that you will want more of! When you arrive it is good to know there is some great take away food: Seven Seas - Fish and chips, 5 minute walk away Nomad Pizza - Fabulous family run, take away and delivery Thai Orchid - Thai food delivery or restaurant Ossie's - Fish and chips, on the High street
Whitstable is an hour and 20 minutes by train from London, with its 6 miles of varied coast, its characterful buildings, access to sea swimming , watersports and cycle path to the ancient city of Canterbury. It is perfect for a weekend break or longer holiday. With its iconic pub on the beach and many restaurants, cafes and bars, Whitstable is a foodie's dream. Its independent shops and pretty harbour make wandering around the town interesting and fun.

Bus, taxi or drive to Canterbury 15 minutes from Whitstable. You can also cycle the 6 miles along the Crab and Winkle cycle path into the city. Visit this ancient cathedral city with university arts centre The Gulbenkian which houses a theatre, cinema and concert hall. Within the city the Roman museum, cathedral and river tours make for a good day out. the Goodsshed is Foodie paradise, a food market and restaurant in a beautifully converted railway goodsshed. The Curzon cinema is a small intimate cinema serving the well known English Chapel Down wine, the Marlowe theatre attracts national theatre companies. Walking down Palace street and through the Cathedral grounds you will feel the beauty and history of this beautiful city.
