Depending on the day and season you can climb up to the top! The lighthouse is about 2 miles from the cottage. An Assateague boat cruise or a kayak trip is also a great way to view the structure.

This isn't just for the kids! You can see the lighthouse and walk up to water. I find it peaceful. But if you have kids this is a great find for the park itself too. And decent bathrooms!

Beach is clean. Park is gorgeous.
If you take a boat tour around the Wildlife Refuge you might get to see the ponies close up and some pods of dolphins too.
If you are in tourist season I recommend getting to the park early or later in the day but either way the beach is big there will be plenty of room for ya!

If you love hard serve ice cream, this is a must visit! There is a line during the summer but it goes quick and is worth it. (There is also coffee for people like me who tire from lots of sun and fresh air!)

If you don't want to wait in line at the Creamery, Mr. Whippy has soft serve (and coffee and espresso options! And donuts in the morning too)! There are only a few flavors of ice cream to choose from though. It's tasty but not as good as the Creamery. However after a long day in the sun it's a really nice treat. Do I prefer the Creamery? Yes it is a MUST TRY! Do I like Mr. Whippy? Yes I sure do!! Really good flavor soft serve and easier on the wallet that is for sure.

Island Foods is here to save the day! Plus, I love the vibe inside. You know you aren't at your local Safeway - it feels like a beach destination grocery store and I'm a sucker for that.

Hmmmm...that is what I would think if I saw this in someone's guidebook. Big deal a gas station right?! Well....it is about 10 minutes from the house. You are on your way. You are tired and hungry most likely. You figure oh we will get there and then figure out food. But it is the busy season. If you get to the house and then try to figure out the food when everyone is tired hungry cranky...you will most likely run into a wait list or a line. Because that is how it works. Or if you are off season...there aren't many food places open. They have breakfast sandwiches all day. The food is cheap and good. you can pick up some snacks and drinks. There are hot sauce packets for those breakfast sandwiches should you like some spicy. There is coffee. You will arrive more refreshed.

The cottage is less than two miles to the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. A wonderful place to enjoy the wildlife and wildlands of the Eastern Shore! The gorgeous beach of Assateague Island National Seashore is nearby and connects to the National Wildlife Refuge.
* So bring your sunscreen (and bug spray depending on the season because wetlands = mosquitos).
* Bring the bikes too because there are lots of nature trails to explore. You can even ride to the beach or "downtown" main street aka Maddox Blvd.
* I have plenty of beach towels for you.

- Pillows and sheets (I figure all Air BNB hosts provide but I guess you never know so want you to know this!) Pillows and sheets are new purchased in Spring 2022.
- Some ice to start you off (4 trays worth and trays cleaned out after each guest)
- Shampoo, conditioner, soap
- Laundry detergent
- I have a universal laptop charger if you forget yours.
- There is a TV but no cable however you have 450 Apple TV movies to choose from.
- Popsicle container for you to make your own
- Popcorn popper
- Board games and cards
