Upper Creek Falls is a quick 9 mile drive up 181 from Roho’s Cabin. Hike the loop to view the falls from the top and then head to the bottom for the natural water slide and swimming hole.

There are great views of Table Rock Mountain while driving up 181 to Roho’s Cabin. From the cabin, it’s about an 18 mile drive to Table Rock.

The views overlooking the Gorge are spectacular and worth the travel to see. From Roho’s Cabin, Brown Mountain Overlook is a 10 minute drive up 181. From there, you can take in the beautiful mountain view during the day and, if you’re lucky, experience the mysterious Brown Mountain Lights at night. If you are really lucky, you might even see the lights from the cabin looking toward Brown Mountain.
“Mysterious lights have been appearing at Brown Mountain in the Linville Gorge area of North Carolina for hundreds of years. According to Cherokee legend, around 1200 A.D. a great battle was fought between the Cherokee and Catawba Indians at Brown Mountain and the mysterious lights are from the Indian maidens still searching for their men who died in battle.
… The lights have been reported as being white, red, yellow, orange and blue. They've been described looking like large balls of fire to small candle lights and from floating near the ground to rising up high into the sky.”

A 7 minute drive from Roho’s Cabin, The Brown Mountain OHV (off-highway vehicle) area, the only OHV area in the Pisgah National Forest, offers 34 miles of designated trails. Signs are located at the head of each trail section.
These trails are mostly designed for trail bikes and ATVs. Jeeps and 4WD vehicles may only use Trail 8 and part of Trail 1. No bushwhacking or cutting vegetation is allowed. Restrooms and picnic facilities are available at the trailhead.
