Palisades park features two pioneer cabins, schoolhouse, arboretum, nature trails, pavilions and two conference halls. Inspiration Point allows visitors to overlook eastern Blount County into St. Clair County. Great top rope climbing is available for experienced climbers with gear.

This gorgeous shelf waterfall is only accessible by boat or with a private guide, but the effort is well worth it to sit in this incredible rocky canyon and hear the falls roar.

It's a 40 minute drive to Horse Pens 40, a historic outdoor nature park offering hiking, picnicking, bouldering, exploring, and festivals and events. It's especially worth a visit for climbers; people visit from all over the world to boulder on these rocks.

River Beach Outfitters is a 17 minute drive from our place, offering kayak and canoe rentals on the beautiful Locust Fork River, with shuttles included. We love our river, and we think you will, too.

Tin Town Brewing Company is a family-friendly place to grab a beer, hear some live music, and explore downtown Onteona. Check out their social media to see what live events are happening. There are often food trucks outside the brewery and you can bring food in to eat.

Dutton's a family owned business in Locust Fork, about a half hour drive from the cabin. Each week, they bring up fresh oysters, shrimp and crawfish from Louisiana; we love getting fresh seafood for special occasions. If you want to place an order with them, contact them on the Tuesday or Wednesday before and then pick up on Friday or Saturday. You can message them through their social media.
If you want help with a crawfish boil, please let us know. Crawfish boils are Jared's specialty.

Ave Maria Grotto, in Cullman, Alabama, is a 30 minute drive from the our place, and it's a cultural experience worth having.
The grotto is a landscaped, 4-acre park in an old quarry on the grounds of St. Bernard Abbey, providing a garden setting for 125 detailed miniature reproductions of some of the most famous religious structures of the world. It's quite a sight, and a peaceful way to spend an afternoon.

Blount County is known for the preservation of covered bridges in our area. The Swann Covered Bridge is a county-owned, wood-and-metal combination style covered bridge that spans the Locust Fork River. It's a sweet place for a picnic, pictures, or just gentle exploring.
