Located about 50 km from Palermo, Cefalù is certainly one of the most famous and renowned tourist resorts in Sicily. Here's what to see in Cefalù. It is an ancient medieval village, one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Italy, which has managed to keep its characteristics and atmosphere intact, despite the fact that every year it is the favorite destination of thousands of tourists from all over the world. Built on a promontory overlooking the sea, Cefalù always manages to offer remarkable attractions. A walk along the historic center, among the small narrow streets, old houses, shops, restaurants and ice cream parlors, always gives me the impression of being in a timeless place. And that's why when I can I always take a walk around here.

The Castle of Caccamo, one of the largest castles in the whole Island, stands majestic on a large cliff overlooking the San Leonardo River Valley far below. The first site was probably a watchtower, but over the following centuries the structure was gradually modified to become one of the manors which belonged to the noblest and most powerful Sicilian families: the Chiaramontes, the Padres family, the Cabreras, the Henriquez family, the Amatos, the De Spuches family…

Sant'Elia is the smallest and most romantic of the Sicilian seaside villages. Fraction of the Municipality of Santa Flavia, the village of Sant'Elia is a twenty minute drive from the chaos of the city, an enchanting place with beaches, soft lights, fishing boats and romantic aperitifs not to be missed under the moon. Originally born as a fishing village dependent on an ancient tonnara, the inhabited center is located largely on a promontory overlooking the sea, founded around the seventeenth century.

A walk at sunset or early in the morning (when the fishing boats arrive), to the small port of San Nicola L’Arena. The small village undoubtedly represents the seafaring soul of this territory, given the activity especially in the Thirties and Forties of one of the oldest tuna fisheries in Sicily: some testimonies affirm that it was the first to obtain the royal concession in 1367 . An ice cream, a delicious pizza, an aperitif in front of the sea, a fish dinner or simply a stroll on the docks of the marina are all perfect crowns of a day at sea in the area;

Since Palermo became the fifth city in the world for the best street food and the first in Europe, the attention to certain typical foods of our cuisine has expanded exponentially, to the point of becoming one of the main tourist attractions. In recent years, I have seen dozens of new street food places born in every corner of the historic center of Palermo. All places that can boast a large clientele, both tourists and people of the city, at all hours of the day and until late in the evening. I have tried several and I must admit that quality and respect for tradition are always put first, so wherever you go you fall well! However, these slightly fashionable places have somewhat distorted the essence of street food, of the street food that is usually eaten standing up, getting your hands dirty and, indeed, on the street, perhaps under the sun, perhaps without a place to being able to sit down. So if you want to have a 100% street food experience, the best place to go is the ancient markets of Palermo, such as Capo, Ballarò and Vucciria.

In some places where fishing is very developed, such as Porticello, you can see on the seafront many restaurants * and fish taverns with tables out in the sun and people having lunch while they begin to get some tan and take off a little of winter pallor. While you have lunch, you can see the boats of the fishermen returning in the sea with the freshly caught fish and the people who flock to the pier to welcome them to be able to buy the fish that is still alive more than fresh!

Aspra is part of the fascinating village of Bagheria located in the province of Palermo. This small village is well known for its Lungomare and its ice-cream production that’s made following an old tradition. If you plan to visit to Aspra you should try and see the spectacular frescos painted by Renato Guttuso held in the main Church of the village. Inspired by the dark and severe faces of the hard-working inhabitants of Aspra, he painted several holy images using their somatic traits to represent Christ and the Saints. A very famous attraction is the sea procession of the Maria SS addolorata. The celebration takes place on the 15 of September and the festivities last for five days during which there are performances, games and lots of stalls serving fresh fish cooked with local recipes. Aspra is also one of the most important producers of salted anchovies in Sicily.
