Hiking In Bear Country
Alaska is bear country and one of the few places in the world where all three species of North American bears live. You may have a chance to see a bear in Alaska. But even if you don’t you will never be far from one.
We mostly have Black Bear in the Juneau area- but if you head out into the wilderness- the brown bear (aka Grizzly) are here. Here are a few tips about living with these amazing creatures.
1. Do not approach a bear or feed bear.
2. Don't leave food in your car or you may have a backseat driver!
3. Make noise in the woods- let the bear know you are there.

You can't come to Juneau and miss a nice hike out to Nugget Falls and see our beautiful Mendenhall Glacier! The hike out to the falls is only a little over a mile from the glacier visitors center and the views are jaw-dropping!
