You can see the playground and field from my house. Run or walk the track at night or after school hours. It's super safe and has a cool view of the st edwards chapel. You can walk right up to 1st street in the front and see into the city.

Yep. We're the bat city... and they all hang out under the south congress ave bridge (most of them). So check it out. You can park at the austin statesman and walk over. Happens at dusk I think.

Austin is car focused. Scoots and e-bikes.
Like the rest of Texas, I highly recommend having a car. I'm not sure how I could travel here without one. My place is close on south congress to things downtown. We do have a bus stop nearby, but I don't know any folks that use. I hear it's a good bus system. It's just not common to use a bus.
Scooters and ebikes are the way to go. I like finding a parking spot and then hopping on a scooter or bike to explore town.

We love to eat in Austin and it's my favorite aspect of living here. So it can be really difficult to find places to eat last minute. Pick a few places you want to hit and book them on opentable.

We have a fantastic trail around the lake/river. You can use this trail for a romantic stroll, laid back walk with friends, or for exercise. You can't swim in the river, but you can swim in barton springs. Or take a tubing excursion at some of the providers outside of Austin.

I always thought the river, was the river... Nope. Locals call it town lake or lady bird lake (after LBJ). The river has a dam further east thus why it is a "lake". Don't swim in it, wade in it, or let your pets in it.
