Food scene

This is one of our favorite pubs that has above average bar food, a great selection of local beers on tap and a fun vibe. This is in the Belltown area close to the Pike Place Market and Climate Pledge Arena.

This is a great Vietnamese fusion restaurant that we frequent for some hot sake and some really creative cuisine. We really like the crispy duck rolls, curry vermicelli bowl and the rockfish.

This is our favorite sushi restaurant in Seattle! We are a big fan of the Happy hour (4-6P) and our favorite specialty roll is the Moonraker (to die for)!

Sightseeing

This is in all the guide books but we think it is not just a tourist trap. A great place to get the freshest seafood to bring home and cook for a taste of the Pacific Northwest. Market Spice sells an Alderwood Smoked Sea Salt that is amazing on salmon (only takes a sprinkle!).

This is one of our favorite spots for a walk/hike destination that is in the city (short drive) but feels like you are escaping to the coast. Endless paths and even a sandy beach!

I have been going to the Ballard Locks since I was a small child and always bring visitors here! Good 1hr or less activity to go see the locks in operation and there is a fish ladder that you can see NW salmon migration through a window.

One of our favorite weekend activities is to go catch a ferry downtown and either ride our bikes or drive accross to any of the islands (Vashon, Bainbridge, Bremerton). I would allot most of a day but you could do a half day if you were just going out for a quick walk around the town right off the ferry. Plenty of great hiking, biking and beaches to explore! There are great art stores, restaurants and local culture. The best part of it is probably the ferry ride itself, if the weather is good go out on the nose of the boat for the crossing!

It is a 1.5-2hr drive to a ferry and another ~1hr ferry but you will NOT regret it. Find a weekend and book a hotel, AirBNB or go camping. The San Juan islands are world renowned for their beauty. If you drive to the islands don't forget to get a reservation for the ferry, especially during the nicer months. Cary lived in Friday Harbor (San Juan Island) for a summer and Orcas Island is our favorite get away for hiking, biking and the quaint town (with good wine offerings!). https://secureapps.wsdot.wa.gov/Ferries/Reservations/Vehicle/default.aspx

Neighbourhoods

University of Washington is Cary's Alma Mater so he is likely a bit biased but we always take out of town guests on a walking tour of campus for the beautiful architecture and greenery. If you catch the right season you can see the Japanese cherry blossoms in bloom in the Quad, which is a sight to be seen!

Capital Hill is a trendy neighborhood with a many restaurant options ranging from low to high budget. A good amount of live music and the most bustling nightlife in the city. Cal Anderson Park is a great place to get some to go food ad sit in the park to take in the neighborhood.
