The Platform is a shopping center in walking distance of the house. There’s a Blue Bottle Coffee, great food options, a soul cycle, shops, etc. Great option to bring kids as there’s plenty of space to run around.

Sightseeing

If you’re looking for a workout/hike with great views, the Culver Stairs are a great option! It’s steep stairs up a large hill and you walk back down. Great views of the city. There’s also a park at the base of the hill, playgrounds, skate parks, and a dog park nearby.

If you’re looking for a “hidden gem” to hike in LA, this is my personal favorite. It’s a relatively easy hike in Malibu with amazing views, and there are shorter/longer trails to choose from. Depending on how much rain we’ve had, there are usually wildflowers blooming in the spring. Note that there’s a cash payment box for parking (it was $4 last I checked). Pet friendly but be careful of temperatures (you’re at higher ground so it’s even hotter!), don’t let them run through brush/high grasses, and watch out for rattlesnakes (these tips apply for any hikes in LA).

Use Uber/Lyft or call ahead about parking

Parking isn’t abundant at most restaurants in LA. Many nicer restaurants and most shopping centers do offer valet parking. Large shopping centers also have paid parking. I’d call ahead to your destinations to ask about parking if you plan to drive. If you want to be able to drive to the beach, I’d recommend going to Santa Monica over Venice or Marina del Rey. Parking garages in downtown Santa Monica offer the first 90 minutes free.

Bring casual clothes and a light jacket

Most places in LA are very casual. You can dress up to go places if you want to, but very few require it (unless you’re going to clubs and lounges, in which case you should confirm their dress code). The closer you are to the beach, the more casual things are. Temperatures here are usually moderate but get chilly at night. For reference, my most common outfit is jeans, a light top/tank/sweater, casual shoes, and I bring a light jacket. My husband usually wears jeans, short sleeve shirt/casual polo, casual shoes, and brings a sweater/light jacket. It’s hotter as you go inland.
