La Nau lighthouse sits on the most easterly point of Alicante province on an area of incredible cliffs with wonderful views of the Mediterranean. If it’s a clear day, you can even see the silhouette of Ibiza from here. At your feet you’ll spot small coves with numerous cavities and the most famous of these caves is Cova dels Orguens, a popular spot with scuba divers.

Javea windmills Also known as the ‘Les Planes mills’, these eleven 14th century constructions are no longer in use. They have a huge wooden structure and robust mechanisms that were used to move heavy round grindstones. Today, the windmills have lost their blades but you can still imagine their importance in years gone by. The mills are located at the top of Cap de Sant Antoni because it’s an area with almost constant wind. They are accessible by parking next to the nunnery and taking a nice easy walk up the track to the the top.

One of the most interesting hiking trails in Javea is the route that leads to Cova Tallada, almost on the border with Denia. This sea level cave was once a quarry for the Moors, who mined it for rocks to construct their buildings. It has a spectacular interior and once you dare to head inside, you’ll feel as if you’re in the centre of the Earth. Walking through its crystal clear waters and between the columns of rock that keep it standing is a wonderful experience. And if you like photography, this cave is the perfect place to play around with the most beautiful and surprising angles and framing. The charm of neighbourhood of Duanes de la Mar is highlighted by the sculptural silhouette of Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Loreto (Church of Our Lady of Loreto), inaugurated in n 1967, a major example of avant-garde religious architecture. The architects García Ordóñez, Dexeus Beatty, Bellot Port, Herrero Cuesta and the engineer Gómez Perreta. It is noted for the daring design of its lines and spatial concept. The employed materials are reinforced concrete (cement and steel). It is a single nave with an oval-shaped floor plan. It has walls without corners which open into the upper section towards the exterior in its upper part, terminating in small Windows where it receives the aerial light which provides it with an atmosphere of contemplation and spirituality. It has a red pine roof in the form of a ship’s keel, which represents the fisherman's boat (Biblical figure). It has little interior decoration; we highlight the large Christ figure suspended over the major altar (by Esteve Edo). In the exterior, 12 thin beams which buttress it represent an allegory dedicated to the 12 apostles. The church can be visited from 9am. until 8pm. throughout the year and in summer it is extended until 9pm.

Denia is definitely worth visiting because it has a long history and a spectacular castle dating from the Moorish period. It’s lovely to go for a walk through the ‘Baix la mar’ sailors’ neighbourhood with its small squares and narrow streets lined with colourful houses, or the Les Roques neighbourhood, another labyrinth of streets from the time of the Moors. Shopping is also excellent in denia and is a short drive from the Mall in ondara.

Javea Port boasts the idyllic La Grava peble beach alongside the palmtree lined promenade & a relaxed atmosphere. where the sculptures on the promenade are changed every year. it is not hard to understand why this a favourite area of Javea you only have to experience its fascinating charm factor. Stroll round the whitewashed houses that surround the bay or watch the fishermen bring in their fresh catches from their sailing boats to the many fantastic seafood restaurants that are found in the area. Located at the north end of the promenade, Javea’s marina still functions as a fishing port with the fishing fleet arriving back in port at least once a day and yachts moored in the same vicinity. A market opens to sell the fresh produce caught by the fishermen. Walk past the harbour and 'Club Náutico' and you will come to another small beach named 'Playa del Pope' or 'Playa del Tangó'. There are also many good shops, bars and cafes – it’s bustling with activity. The Port area of Javea has a real Spanish feel, this is an area where locals live and work in harmony with the tourist elements. And why not visit the landmark of the Port area , the church of Our Lady of Loreto with a roof which imitates the hull of a ship.
