In mid-June the Catawba rhododendron burst into a spectacular display of blossoms covering more than 600 acres–the largest natural rhododendron garden in the world. The Roan Mountain State Park offers camping, hiking, tennis, swimming and picnicking.

In mid-June the Catawba rhododendron burst into a spectacular display of blossoms covering more than 600 acres–the largest natural rhododendron garden in the world. The Roan Mountain State Park offers camping, hiking, tennis, swimming and picnicking.
Heavy oak planks, hand-forged nails and threaded spikes have helped the Covered Bridge remain beautiful and functional. Built in 1882, it is one of the few remaining covered bridges in Tennessee. The Doe River Covered Bridge is recognized by the Tennessee Historical Commission, National Register of Historic Places and the Historic Engineering Record.

This 18th century home is the site of the 1788 Battle of the State of Franklin between John Sevier and Col. John Tipton. In the 1840s it was the home of Landon Carter Haynes who became a Confederate Senator. The site is on the Tennessee Civil War Trail.

Directions: 10 miles north of Elizabethton off Hwy 91 and turn left onto Panhandle Rd. Note: the Blue Hole is very close to the Brooks Farm property!

Take the family or friends on this moderately difficult trail that begins at the Laurel Falls trailhead in Hampton. It is a popular spur trail to the AT, which leads to Laurel Falls within the Pond Mountain Wilderness Area. Directions: From Elizabethton, take Hwy 19E/321 to Hampton, then turn left onto Hwy 321/67 toward Mtn. City/Boone and continue for 1.3 miles to the trailhead on right. Follow foot trail 2.5 miles to falls.
