Marlborough region is host to some of NZ's finest vineyards for cellar tasting and meals. Drive yourself to a few select locations, or sign up for a hosted winery tour.
Known today for the Marlborough wine region and world class white wines - Blenheim is also close to Picton and Havelock - centres of aquaculture.
Blenheim is on the main transit route South or to Nelson. The majestic Wairau River stretches into the winter ski region, and Peter Jackson chose the local area for his WWI aircraft museum.
Historic sites trace Maori archeology back to the 12th C, while European traders and sheep farming dominated later years, with fruit orchards giving way to grapes from the 1990s.

Havelock is 1hr drive towards Nelson along a beautiful valley road. Gateway to Pelorus Sound on the never-ending Marlborough Sounds, Havelock has some boutique and interesting cafes and art shops. Stroll the harbour, catch a water taxi - or drive on to nearby Pelorus Bridge cafe, one of the sites for filming 'Lord of the Rings'.

Take the link road to Havelock for a gorgeous drive - or simply drive up the hill (toward Shakespeare Bay) for the view of the Sounds.
