Food Scene

Teeny-tiny, itty-bitty, cutie-pie restaurant featuring a nice blend of Pacific NW cuisine and Hipster Portland Foodie cuisine. Literally right around the corner! Pro-Tip: They don't accept reservations and tend to have a bit of a wait considering the whole restaurant seats about a dozen people, but they like to VIP those of us in the 'hood, so if you call and let them know you live around the corner they'll get you right on the wait list.

Mega popular brunch place but we think worth the wait (with coffee!). This is one of our favorite spots because of the extensive, delicious menu selection, the nice, "walk-off-breakfast" distance from our home, and how they somehow mash hipster brunch with a super kid-friendly vibe... Makes you feel like you're still relevant and cool even whilst sleep-deprived, schlepping kids around a restaurant. Pro Tip: If dining with the Littles, ask for a table near the stage.

Long wait with questionable service by hipsters who are too tired and hungover from playing their show the night before to remember to bring you more coffee, but OMG the benedicts!!! This is a truly P-town experience and it's always good dining karma to support an establishment that's made the transition from "old Portland" to "new Portland". Pro Tip: we prefer the original location of lower Division, but there is a second location on upper Hawthorne that tends to be less busy (last we checked).

Don't forget your skinny jeans and feather earrings because this is a place to see-and-be-seen. (Back before kids, when we played in our super cool bands, this was the place to meet for our 1:pm "morning"-after-the-show brunch.) It's a staple among Hawthorne and has been serving a quality breakfast that have stood the test of time.

This place holds a special place in my heart because my aunt and mom would take me here for my birthday and special occasions growing up. Plus, the food is delish. Plus, you won't have to wait 10-years to be seated. They do take great care in their menu offerings -they use bread from the bakery down the street and such, and it's a pleasant hop-skip-jump away, perfect to preface a bit of Hawthorne shopping. Best for brunch, but also a wonderful option for lunch and dinner.

My husband is from San Diego and he calls these "good taco's made by a bunch of white people". Maybe some of the very best tacos in town, as advertised by the massive line out the front door and down the block every day (Pro Tip: Get there BEFORE 5:pm to avoid the longest line wait, 3-5 happy hour, and Taco Tuesday's). They serve homemade marg's while you wait, though, that helps. And then you get your taco's and you're like DAYUM, that's a good taco. They use all the best ingredients, taking pride in supporting local farms and following the Portland local/organic/sustainable protocol.

They serve food strictly from the Oaxaca region of Mexico, and for a while when they first opened they didn't even offer chips and we were lectured a bit about it because "it wasn't the Oaxaca way," but now they have some of the best chips and guacamole I've ever had... A classic case of supply and demand, I suppose. They are also known for their Torta's. Since this place is right around the corner from us, and fairly over-priced, we usually stop here for a delicious margarita and chips/guac appetizer on our way down Division for date-night dinner.

One of our most favorite places on Division.... No, make that Portland! Their margarita pizza on happy hour is $7, and their entire happy hour menu is crazy-amazing.
