I suggest you google The Nautical Mile Freeport NY if you intend to visit to see all that is available. It is one of my favorite places to go during the summer months and it is less than 5 miles from my location.

Nickerson Beach Park, part of the Nassau County Park system since 1967, is 155 acres of a sun-drenched recreational facility. It is located along the Atlantic Ocean on Long Island’s South Shore. It offers a half mile of beachfront, a campground for recreational vehicles, Fun Zone, ball fields, swimming pools, numerous athletic courts, a dog run, cabanas and lockers.
It is a great place to relax and soak in the beauty of nature.

If you are considering hiking or visiting a walking trail during your stay, this is your best location. Levy Park offers scenic NYC Skyline views from the top of the preserve and it is located less than 10 miles from my location. They have a fish pier which has beautiful views of Long Island sound as well as kayaking. Please contact the location for kayaking rental information. This location is also located right next to the Merrick Golf Course if golfing is something you intend to do as well. While you are there please visit the African goats!

Norman J. Levy Park & Preserve
1600 Merrick RdIf you are considering hiking or visiting a walking trail during your stay, this is your best location. Levy Park offers scenic NYC Skyline views from the top of the preserve and it is located less than 10 miles from my location. Hempstead Lake State Park is a multiuse facility. Included are 18 tennis courts, 6 pickleball courts, children's playgrounds, basketball courts, bridle trails for horseback riding, hiking trails, shaded picnic areas and a historic hand-carved wooden carousel. There are three ponds that are accessible for fishing. On Hempstead Lake, the largest lake in Nassau County, you are permitted to use cartop and inflatable boats (certified by the National Marine Manufacturer's Association) with an annual permit issued from the Park. McDonald Pond, South Pond, and Hempstead Lake are stocked with trout in the fall and you may target trout year-round. Other species present include largemouth bass, chain pickerel, bullhead catfish, black crappie, yellow perch, carp, and sunfish.

The Camellia Greenhouse displays the largest collection of camellias in the northeast, and the Main Greenhouse has extensive collections of hibiscus, orchids, succulents, and seasonal displays.
Coe Hall is the Tudor Revival residence of the Coe family and is open for guided tours from April to September. Guests sample the formal lifestyle of the 1920s and see stunning craftsmanship and impressive collections of furnishings, paintings, stained glass, and decorative arts. In addition to the mansion, visitors will experience a wide variety of gardens, specimen plantings, and charming outbuildings that make Planting Fields truly unique.
The Coes used the talents of the Olmsted Brothers of Brookline, Massachusetts, to create an English park setting. Guided tours of the grounds are available and the park welcomes group tours. A wide variety of special events and courses are offered year-round. Mountain bikes are not permitted on park trails.

Public transportation
If you are considering traveling to NYC Manhattan by public transportation you need to take the bus & train. The N40/41 FREEPORT bus stop is a 5 min walk from my location once you've arrived at the Freeport LIRR station (last stop) you will take the westbound train to PENN STATION. The total travel time including the bus is 1hr 15 minutes. To return you need to take the BABYLON train get off at the FREEPORT station and again N40/41 get off at the Henry Street stop.
