The Edge is three blocks away and is a perfect spot for a late breakfast or lunch. It’s a brunch destination and you will end up waiting forever if you’re not there when they open on the weekends. The Edge also has a coffee bar where you can pick up and take out your beverage of choice. THE EDGE IS CLOSED ON MONDAYS.

We LOVE Ponty Bistro! They are one of the few local restaurants that’s open for breakfast, and they also serve lunch, dinner and brunch until midnight. Cisse, the owner is an amazing chef and hospitable owner. Senegalese-French-International fusion. Our faves include: Moules Africana, Artichoke Salad, Yassa Poulet or Yassa Poisson, French Toast, Lox Omelette, and the chocolate and plain croissants that are baked on site and hot upon arrival. The ambiance is an Uptown vibe, with a mix or local and international.

Abyssinia is another favorite. If you haven’t tried Ethiopian food and even if you have, this family-owned local treasure is one of the best in NYC. They serve the best Injera in the Tri-state area. MUST ORDER: Doro Wot (chicken) and Awaze Tibs (lamb or beef). Lots of veggie/vegan options also. Open for lunch and dinner. They close early (9:30pm), so give yourself time to enjoy the meal.

Fumo is one of our favorites. For pasta and thin-crust pizzas, this is your new neighborhood spot. If you love mushrooms and truffle oil, the penne fungi…thank me later. You can’t go wrong anywhere on this menu!

For old fashioned New York pizza, this is the best in the area. Owned by the thin-crust and great Italian food Fumo restaurant folks next door, it’s the same quality ingredients and countless options for extras.

Excellent and some of the best ramen in NYC. Worth a trip or you can order for delivery. Highly recommended the pork Tonkatsu ramen. If you can stand the heat, try the extra spicy, volcanic option. Good luck 🌶 (A NEW JIN RAMEN IS OPENING UP NEARBY ON WEST 144TH STREET SOON. Please check first before ordering from this one farther away).

The best fried chicken in Harlem and, quite possibly, in NYC! Absolutely our favorite. If you try anyone else’s, you’re on your own. https://ny.eater.com/2022/3/28/22971521/charles-pan-fried-chicken-opens-harlem-nyc

DESTINATIONS

NYC destinations that should definitely be on your list.
One of our favorite outdoor spaces. Built on a historic, elevated rail line, the High Line was always intended to be more than a park. You can walk through gardens, view art, experience a performance, savor delicious food, or connect with friends and neighbors-all while enjoying a unique perspective of New York City. I recommend starting at the 34th Street entrance to Hudson Yards, where there is usually a free, public art exhibit near the Oculus, then walk on the High Line to the 16th or 14th Street exits, depending upon which one is open. WALK TO THE CHELSEA MARKET ENTRANCE (10th Avenue, between 15th & 16th Streets). PLAN TO EAT HERE. There are endless food options and you can take it up to the High Line if you prefer to eat outdoors. See my guidebook listing for Chelsea Market. VISITOR INFO: YOU MUST BOOK TIMED PASSES FOR WEEKENDS DURING THE SUMMER. NO PASSES NEEDED FOR WEEKDAYS. CHECK THIS LINK FOR MORE INFO & PASSES. https://www.thehighline.org/visit/ Between noon and 6pm on weekends and select holiday Mondays (Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day), please make a free reservation for access. On weekdays there is open access and no reservations are required. Weekend reservations will be in place through the end of September. Passes will be released every Monday for dates two weeks into the future. Please note the entry directions below. Monday – Friday 7am – 10pm (Through May 31) 7am – 11pm (June 1 – September 30) Open access without reservations All entrances open Saturday, Sunday, and select holiday Mondays 7am – 10pm (Through May 31) 7am – 11pm (June 1 – September 30) Peak hours – Timed-entry passes required 12 – 6pm Limited walk-up entries available.
