Glendurgan is truly a great garden owned by the National trust. Set in a 30 acre woodland valley and created by Albert Fox around 1826, it enjoys a very mild climate due to its fine sheltered position and has fine views to the Helford Estuary. During the years many exotic and rare trees and shrubs have been collected and grown here. In Spring camellias, azaleas, magnolias and wild flowers all feature giving beautiful displays and colours, followed by foxgloves in early Summer. The Summer also brings a stunning show of Hydrangeas. The laurel maze and Giant's stride are popular with children and make Glendurgan worth visiting with all the family. The garden is just one of a cluster of gardens in this area of Cornwall.

The Minack Theatre is Cornwall's world famous open-air theatre, carved into the granite cliff and set in glorious gardens overlooking the spectacular panorama of Porthcurno Bay. A place like no other, the world-famous Minack theatre is a must-see for visitors to Cornwall. Perched on rugged cliffs over-looking the spectacular panorama of Porthcurno Bay, you might think ancient Greeks had carved it from the granite. In fact, less than a century ago it was a rough gully of gorse and heather dropping dizzily down to the sea. Today the theatre welcomes you to discover the extraordinary story of how it was created and experience the magic of live performance in this iconic space. The Minack stages a full programme of live performances and at other times you are welcome to explore the dramatic site and enjoy the glorious sub-tropical gardens full of exotic plants.

Trebah is the wild and magical result of over 180 years of inspired and dedicated creation. The natural spring at the top of the garden drops 10ft into the Koi Pool and cascades through drifts of brightly coloured waterside plantings. Mediterranean and southern hemisphere plants intermingle with Trebah’s groves of huge Australian tree ferns and palms. A giant plantation of gunnera and clumps of huge bamboos give this garden a unique and exotic wildness matched by no other garden in the British Isles. It has been rated as one of the best 80 gardens in the world. Many of the plants, such as the azaleas and rhododendrons, selected for their fragrance, have been planted in drifts on the ravine sides. The award winning Visitor Centre houses a distinctive restaurant with a Mediterranean-style terrace, plant and gift shops.

Step back in time and lose yourself in Europe’s largest garden restoration; a world of romance, heritage and adventure awaits your discovery. Explore Victorian Productive Gardens and Pleasure Grounds along winding paths laid out over two centuries ago. Journey across the forgotten world beneath the historic rhododendron boughs of Sikkim, beside Maori-carved tree ferns in New Zealand, to explore the Italian Garden and Alpine inspired Ravine. The Jungle experience, intimate pathways edged with sub-tropical plantings have been created through the valley and its watercourses, and a rope bridge now extends across it all; offering a whole new perspective. This exuberant garden hosts a riot of luxuriant foliage, bamboo tunnels, and gigantic rhubarb and bananas, drawing the imagination on a journey far from our temperate shores. The Giant’s Head, Mud Maid and Grey Lady all wait to be discovered along the Woodland Walk to delightful bird song. This sheltered path comes to life for children and adults alike as the woodland sculptures reveal themselves, emerging gently from the undergrowth, in a beautiful natural landscape. Ancient woodlands and grazed pastures are managed to promote wildlife, whether you’re accompanied on your visit by your own personal robin or you are lucky enough to glimpse a kingfisher or a hummingbird hawkmoth, our resident wildlife is sure to enthral and surprise. The unique palette of heritage flavours are incorporated within a daily lunch menu in the Heligan Kitchen. The licensed Heligan Tearoom provides a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere for morning coffee, Cornish cream teas and hearty, home-cooked meals. Whilst the Heligan Shop offers quality items, many of which have been designed, made, written or grown by staff on-site, providing an exclusive memento of a visit to the Lost Gardens. Heligan is so much more than a garden restored; its own special atmosphere encourages contemplation and inspiration, satisfying the broadest range of horticultural and wildlife interests. Today, the 200 acres of mysterious gardens and estate offer quite simply, the best natural playground ever. Falmouth is located just along the coast and only a few miles drive from one of Cornwall's most scenic areas, the Helford River. This estuary reaches from the edge of Falmouth Bay to the old trading port of Gweek, 5 miles inland. Towards the seaward end are a number of small, sheltered beaches such as Polgwidden, Porth Saxon and Helford Passage. Further upstream are seven creeks leading off from the river, each with its own distinct character. Best known of these is Frenchman's Creek, made famous by the Daphne du Maurier novel of the same name. The 30 or so miles of riverside fringing the Helford is heavily wooded in parts or backing on to rolling fields in others. There are a number of villages dotted around the estuary, all are worth a visit.

Fun Activity

Dubbed the Eighth Wonder of the World by some, Eden is a dramatic global garden housed in tropical biomes that nestle in a crater the size of 30 football pitches. With a worldwide reputation, and recognised by the British Travel Awards as the Best UK Leisure Attraction five years running, Eden barely needs an introduction, but this epic destination definitely deserves a day of your undivided attention. More than just a huge, tropical garden, Eden is a gateway into the relationships between plants and people, and a fascinating insight into the story of mankind's dependence on plant life. Not only a mind-blowing visitor attraction, Eden is also fast-becoming a unique resource for education and knowledge towards a sustainable future. Experience the sights, smells and scale of the rainforests in the Rainforest Biome - the world's largest greenhouse - and discover the tropical plants that are used to produce everyday products. Travel to South Africa and California, as you amble amongst the orange and lemon trees, olive groves and gnarled vines of the Mediterranean Biome, and in the 30-acre Outdoor Garden see hemp, sunflowers and other plants that could change your future, flourishing under the Cornish sun. A fascinating location, but, more importantly, Eden is a fun and family-friendly day out. Curious kids can find out where tea, rubber and sugar come from, and travel the world to the simulated environments of tropical destinations that they dream of traveling to in the future. There are themed events according to the seasons, workshops for adults and children, activity days, music concerts and much more besides. There's no stress about packing up a family survival kit - facilities include on-site restaurants and cafés, gift shops and well equipped child- and baby-friendly toilet facilities. In fact, for a day out you needn't worry about taking much more than yourselves. Eden also offers easy access to wheelchairs and buggies, and dogs on leads are welcome in all the outdoor areas of the site. There's so much going on at Eden that it's good to check their own events calendar and food menus before a visit to make sure you don't miss out on anything.
