You can download several different apps that will guide you through each place to stop and give you history of the area. Gypsyguide.com is a good one. Worth doing once. Would not do with small children or someone that gets car sick. Can get very crowded.

If you go up early in the morning, you can watch the sunrise. It's absolutely beautiful. Take warm clothes as it is really cold up there. There are also several tour companies that offer bike rides down the mountain.

Snorkeling and Diving
Half moon crater located off the coast of Maui. Excellent snorkeling and diving. Recommend taking a boat from Maalaea Harbor out there. Four Winds, Trilogy, Maui Diamond. Almost guaranteed to see whales in the winter months when the Humpback whales come to Maui to have their babies. I've been snorkeling at Molokini and actually saw whales in the water with me. They were on the outside of the crater and I was on the inside. Kind of scary, but also super cool experience. They come to Maui because it's safe for their babies. Often times you will see a big fluke coming out of the water and then a little one next to it. It's the mama teaching the baby how to be a good whale. :) Spinner dolphins are also plentiful in these waters.

Snorkeling at Black Rock is really good. Calm and clear water. Sometimes you will be lucky enough to find free parking at the Marriott. Walk down the concrete path to the beach and go right. Great people watching too!
