There are 2 windmills at the western most end of Golden Gate Park. The Dutch Windmill is at the north corner and has a beautiful tulip garden which was in full bloom the 3rd week of March. It’s a very small park with the windmill and tulips gardens in the immediate area but is a must see particularly in spring when the flowers are in bloom.

This is a spectacular part of Golden Gate Park, serene, but so much more. It has a very important purpose to memorialize those who have died from AIDS. But it also serves as a truly beautiful garden for all to enjoy. Very close to the entrance to the Park.

Its the park area between the de Young Museum and the California Academy of Sciences. It was originally put in place for the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894. There are statues and fountains to see. One of the major areas is the Spreckels Organ area. It is called the Bandshell and was a gift from sugar magnate Claus Spreckels (the original Sugar Daddy!). There is a large parking garage underneath the Music Concourse area. Its a great place to park if one visits Golden Gate Park with a car.

It is very fitting that the largest statue/monument on the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park is dedicated to Francis Scott Key. He was a poet and musician who wrote the Star-Spangled Banner.

This is the oldest public Japanese garden in the United States and it's located inside Golden Gate Park. It's just so beautiful and peaceful. Of course you may want to stop in at the tea house for a quiet cup of tea. https://www.japaneseteagardensf.com/

OK, yes, there is a buffalo paddock in the park! Situated about John F. Kennedy Drive, the paddock is easily accessible when coming from the Anglers Lodge. To reach this entertaining attraction, you should head for the western end of the park, where a large fenced-in region holds the prized vision. This splendid sight is also located close to North Lake, as well as the corner of Chain of Lakes Drive East.

How fun is this? It has been the tradition of one of the oldest children’s playgrounds in the United States to have a carousel as part of its environment. Since the playground opened in 1888, there have been three at Golden Gate Park. The current jewel that literally glistens in the park is a 1914 beauty built by the Herschell-Spillman Company. When paying a visit to the carousel at Golden Gate Park, keep in mind that parking is located east of Bowling Green Drive, which is by the lawn bowling building. You will not be able to park by the carousel or the Sharon Building.

Spreckles Lake is most notable for the little model boats that sail here nearly everyday. It’s an artificial reservoir built in 1904 that serves two purposes: functionality and recreation. Ever since its inception, it’s been a place for model boaters to come out and set sail. The San Francisco Model Yacht Club has been on it’s banks since the early 1900’s and is open to both members, and visitors alike. It’s also one of the premier model boating facilities in the country, if not the world (there’s a hobby for everyone after all). This is a fun place to sit and watch or even photograph the tiny boats as they flit around the water. You can also rent a small boat if you wish to set sail yourself. There are calm and serene wind-powered boats on one side of the lake, and high-energy motor boats allowed on another side.
