Guide to Islands Brygge & Copenhagen

What to do

During the Summer, there are several swimming zones throughout the Copenhagen Harbour. At Islands Brygge we have the biggest one, with both pools for kids, a long and deep zone if you wish to swim lanes, and a tower you can jump of off if you dare. Pack your beachwear, towels and a blanket, and enjoy a day on the grass and in the water.

At Kulturhuset Islands Brygge you can rent city bikes, and go for a ride in the city. Exploring the city by bike, is how you should do it. It is faster and cheaper than public transportation and you can go where ever you wish. Riding bikes in the city 101: Always look over your shoulder before passing someone or turning. When turning reach out your hand to the side you wish to turn to. Hold up your hand when stopping. DO NOT stop in the middle of the bike lanes to take pic or chat - go to the sidewalk for this.

Take a walk along the Copenhagen Waterfront. This is a great way to see the city, and we do have a few bridges crossing the waters only for pedestrians and bikes.

A gem only 15 min walk from the apartment. Here you find a little beach where you can hang out or go for a swim, excluded from the harbor. There is also a Cafe called Café Nöa'h with a really great brunch.

If you find yourself in Copenhagen on one of the few hot days we get aound here, a trip to the beach is a great way to unwind. The area is huge, and you can either swim in the ocean or the laguna. If you like a little action, you can rent kayaks, paddle boards or windsurfing equipment. This area also offer a good selection of cafés and restaurants.

Food

In Copenhagen we live for our baked goods - and the competition is crazy. At Islands Brygge you'll find one of my personal favorites, Andersen Bakery. Their bred is really good and have Japanese ingredients, but their stuffed croissants are TO DIE FOR.

My personal favorite, when it comes to burgers. At sliders you get small tasty burgers, and they are far from traditional. You'll find ingredients like kimchimayo, strawberry, peanuts and pork rinds. You'll find Sliders at two of the citys most popular neighborhoods; Vesterbro and Nørrebro.

Reffen is the biggest street food court in the city. It is packed with foodstands from all over the world, and is a must visit - if the weather allows it. I will recommend to either ride a bike out there, or take the public 'havne bus' - a yellow ferry, you can take from Islands Brygge and to Reffen. This place also has to swim zones in the harbour, so pack your swimming gear and make a day of it.

Nabolag

Freetown Christiana. This neighborhood is mostly known for Pusherstreet, where the drugdealers have all their business out in the open - but it is so much more than just Weed. Take a guided walking tour, or go see all the odd houses on your own. Take a walk but the canal and into the "jungle". And do not hesitate to ask the locals if you have any questions. Sit down at Nemoland and have a beer and enjoy the Sunday Live music, or buy a coffee at Månefiskeren.
