Gravel roads, an opportunity to observe a working family dairy farm in the heart of Central Vermont. On a hike along Silloway Road, you can see a wood processing operation, where logs are moved from piles, to a splitting machine, and loaded in to trucks for delivery as wood fuel. A few more yards and you will see grazing dairy cattle during the month of May through October. Go along Silloway Road and continue on Boudro Road, where the Silloway Maple operation is year round. Sugaring season with the boiling of sap into syrup may be late January into Feb, or Mar, or early April. The "Season" is dependent on nights that temperatures dip below 32 degrees, and days with temperatures rising above freezing. That weather warms the maple trees and when tapped the sap begins to flow through miles of sap line, and taps in nearby sugar orchards.
