Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens are the most popular, historic parks in Dover. They are located 1.9 miles from your accommodation and 2.5 miles north west of Dover town centre in the Alkham Valley, part of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Both parks are carefully designed landscapes. Thousands of tonnes of earth were moved and trees planted to create the slopes, woods, water courses and lake. The River Dour, a spring-fed chalk stream, flows through the parks. Combined with ornamental lakes, this gives the parks a picturesque landscape style. The origins of both parks can be traced back to grand country houses and estates built for prominent local industrialists in the early 19th and 20th centuries.

The church of St Mary’s is a beautiful church that has changed little since it was first built in the 11th Century. The Norman architects built the church from flint and it has a slate roof. The solid walls are three feet thick and laid out the church with a nave and a west tower. Inside the church visitors can see two elaborate carved recesses, in one of which is the armorial shield of a local noble family. The Churchyard has an annex on the opposite side of Church Lane which holds a number of additional internments.

Folkestone Sunny Sands Beach is a popular sandy beach located close to the centre of town and next to Folkestone Harbour. As such all the facilities are close by including cafés, pubs, shops and toilets. The fact that this is one of the closest sandy beaches to London means it can get quite busy in the summer. And the sand here is great for making sandcastles - it must be judging by the entries to the annual sandcastle building competition! There is a seasonal, independently run lifeguard service at Sunny Sands on Saturdays and Sundays, between the hours of 10am and 4pm from April until September. Postcode CT19 6AU

Boasting an award-winning high street and an unspoiled seafront, Deal in Kent is, unsurprisingly, frequently highlighted as one of the best places to live in Britain. Deal's promenade overlooks a pebbly beach that offers scenic views of the English Channel and out towards the notorious Goodwin Sands. Following an extensive refurbishment, Deal Pier (the town’s third) is a landmark not to be missed - you might recognise it as a location from ITV's 'Liar', which was filmed in Deal. The view from the end of the pier, looking back at the historical buildings lining the shore, has remained unchanged for more than 100 years. If you're a history enthusiast, head to Deal Castle. Built by the order of King Henry VIII as part of a chain of coastal defences, it’s one of the finest Tudor artillery castles in England. Keep an ear out for some interesting Deal Castle facts during your visit! The fascinating maritime history of Deal - a former smuggling haunt - is a joy to uncover. Visit the quirky Timeball Tower and discover the vital role this maritime monument once played in the safe navigation of ships sailing along Deal's coastline. Deal town centre is home to picturesque and pastel-coloured dwellings, nestled amongst the cobbles of its winding streets. Quaint fishermen’s cottages rub shoulders with well-preserved Georgian town houses, making Middle Street a must-visit. Plus, there are some great buys to be found in Deal town centre’s shops! A wide selection of independent stores will whet your retail appetite and there's a wealth of antique shops to browse as well. If you love the Arts, you'll feel immediately at home in Deal. Embrace Deal's arts scene with plenty of galleries, exhibitions and museums to explore; festivals and cultural performances to enjoy. Deal Braderie, the town’s annual street market, is hugely popular. Here, you’ll find stalls selling vintage clothing, jewellery, crafts, bric-a-brac, memorabilia, books and antiques. Exploring is hungry work, so you'll look forward to the culinary delights of Deal's thriving foodie scene, to sample within the restaurants in Deal. Choose from waterfront bistros to chic and cosy eateries tucked away in the town centre. As you’d expect, fresh, locally-caught seafood is a speciality!

Sandwich was one of the Cinque Ports and still has many original medieval buildings, including several listed public houses and gates in the old town walls, churches, almshouses and the White Mill. While once a major port, it is now two miles from the sea due to the disappearance of the Wantsum Channel. Its historic centre has been preserved.[3] Sandwich Bay is home to nature reserves and two world-class golf courses, Royal St George's and Prince's. The town is also home to many educational and cultural events. http://www.visitsandwich.co.uk/places_to_visit/index.htm
