Tucked away on a quiet street in Hafnarfjörður is the enchanting Hellisgerði Park. A pathway twists beside the lovely pond and through the lava rocks that buckle and fold into tiny caves and mysterious nooks. Draped in emerald and olive-coloured moss or covered in a wash of white snow, the rocks and the stories of this park are captivating. This magical place is known for its huldufólk (hidden people: elves, dwarves and other mystical creatures). It is very nice to walk in and look at the beauty nature have.

Sculpture Park, Víðistaðatún The International Sculpture Park at Víðistaðatún comprises 16 works by artists from Mexico, Switzerland, France, Finland, Japan, Germany, and Iceland. Most of the works were created at the Straumur art center, in connection with art festivals held in Hafnarfjörður in 1991 and 1993. Víðistaðatún is a beautiful place to go alone or with your family. Apart from breathtaking sculptures, the park is also home to a soccer field, two tennis courts, and the Hafnarfjörður camping grounds.

Food Scene

It is a very beautiful building with a lot of history. There is also every year a Viking festival. You can have a lovely dinner at Fjörukráin Viking restaurant it is open daily from 6 pm - 10 pm. They serve lamb shanks, sheep heads, minke whale, the traditional Icelandic meat soup, dried haddock, many types of fish, the traditional skyr and many other desserts.

He was a great entrepreneur in Hafnarfjörður between 1794 and 1830, a merchant who owned a fishing business and shipyard in town. Bjarni was one of the first Icelanders to get a trade license in Iceland after the Danish trade monopoly ended, and has been given the title “The Father of Hafnarfjörður.” The house has been restored to its original state and shows how an upper-class family in Hafnarfjörður lived at the beginning of the 19th century, while a light is shed on the interesting story of Bjarni Sívertsen and his family

Beggubúd is the location of the Museum of Commerce, part of Hafnarfjördur Museum. The building was constructed in 1906 on the town’s main shopping street. It was lifted and moved to the museum’s site in 2008 where it was restored and used to house an exhibition.

Sightseeing

This path around the harbor passes one of Hafnarfjördur Museum’s exhibition centers. The center houses collections of photographs depicting the life and times of the people who built the town of Hafnarfjördur.
